Metal Building Price Chart 2026: 11 Sizes From 20x20 to 100x150

Metal building prices are usually quoted per square foot, but the rate falls as buildings get wider. A 20x20 garage costs far more per square foot than a 100x150 warehouse. This chart puts 11 common sizes side by side, with kit and turnkey ranges for each, so you can see the pattern at a glance.

Kit prices cover the frame, panels, trim and fasteners for a standard 12 foot eave building with a basic load rating. Turnkey estimates use $30 to $45 per square foot and include the kit, foundation, erection and basic finishes, but not land, utilities or interior build out.

How We Built It

  • Kit rates come from our metal building cost calculator: $17 to $21 per square foot under 40 feet wide, $14 to $17 from 40 to 79 feet wide, and $13 to $16 at 80 feet and wider.
  • Turnkey rates combine the kit with typical erection ($4 to $12 per square foot), slab ($5 to $9) and finish costs.
  • Steel prices are checked against the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics producer price index for steel mill products (series WPU1017).

Rates are reviewed in October 2026. Real quotes vary with region, snow and wind loads, eave height, doors and the cost of getting to your site.

What the Chart Shows

Wider is cheaper per square foot

A clear span frame costs more as it gets wider, but the floor area grows faster. End walls, doors and trim are shared across more space. That is why a 40x60 kit lands at $14 to $17 per square foot while a 30x40 sits at $17 to $21.

The kit is less than half the job

On every size, the turnkey estimate is roughly double the kit price or more. Foundation and erection are the biggest extras. Our concrete slab calculator and erection cost guide break those down.

Small buildings are expensive per foot

A 20x20 kit runs about $6,800 to $8,400, which is a lot per square foot for a two car space. If you are on the edge between two sizes, the larger one often costs less than you expect. See our 24x30 and 30x60 guides.

How to Read Your Own Quote Against the Chart

Divide the kit price on your quote by the floor area to get a rate per square foot, then compare it with the row for the closest size. If your rate is well above the range, look for the reasons in the table above, such as a high snow load, tall eaves, extra doors or long freight. If it is well below, check what is missing. Some low quotes leave out trim, insulation, anchor bolts or engineered drawings. Ask each supplier for an itemized list so you can compare the same scope. A quote that matches the chart on price but includes more, such as heavier panels or a better paint system, is often the best value.

FAQ

How much does a metal building cost per square foot?

Kits run about $13 to $21 per square foot depending on width, and turnkey projects about $30 to $45 per square foot.

Why do wider metal buildings cost less per square foot?

Shared end walls, trim and doors are spread over more floor area, so the cost per square foot drops as the span grows.
