Rex Metal Buildings kits are popular because they’re easily assembled and customized to suit your company’s requirements. One of our popular standard sizes, the prefab 100 x 120 metal building, has a floor area of 12,000 square feet and is ideal for those companies requiring a slightly larger, versatile structure.
At the time of writing (November 2022), we provide estimates for the costs to build a metal prefab structure based on $12-$14 per square foot. Therefore, a basic 100 x 120 metal building will set you back $144,000-$168,000. Of course, customization will cost extra depending on local building codes, insulation, and specialist designs you might choose. Our team considers minimal snow loads, light wind speeds, and standard foundations when designing a standard build. So, if your circumstances are out of the ordinary, expect to pay more.
100×120 Metal Building Costs
Several factors affect the overall cost of a new Rex Metal Building kit. However, if you come to us already knowing the finished size you need, life will be much easier. Typically, a ballpark estimate for a standard metal building kit will be $12-$14/sq.ft. However, this doesn’t cover customized designs, concrete floors and foundations, insulation, accessories and steel erection.

Height
The height of a pre-engineered steel building depends mainly on its purpose. For example, a steel container lock-up or garden shed is about 8-10ft high. In contrast, an aircraft hangar, agricultural or industrial building will need to be much higher. Generally, the most popular heights are 12-20ft to the eaves. However, many standard building kits reach 40ft. But, we can provide higher roof clearances requiring additional design.
Choosing the correct height is always a problem and requires you to consider many different scenarios. For example, you might need to raise an excavator’s arm for repairs. Alternatively, do you expect to increase production in the next five years and need additional storage or maybe install a grain elevator? This factor is up to you and your requirements.
We always advise our customers to choose a building with a roof only as high as they need. Anything else is a waste of money. But, of course, we can’t stress enough that you should research your local building codes and meet with the city hall officials when you have the building specifications.
Optional Accessories
Although our standard metal buildings are simple boxes, we can provide many variations and optional accessories to give you a structure unique to your requirements.
Structural metal has a better strength-to-weight ratio than wood, making it a very structurally sound material with the added advantage of better security from unwanted intruders and vermin. However, metal also allows you to choose many accessories and customizations to make your metal building unique.
Easy customization
Rex Metal Building’s designers can customize almost every aspect of your new prefabricated structure.
We can alter its outward appearance, height, floor area, and energy efficiency. Then, help you choose different windows, doors, roof designs, and thermal and acoustic insulation packages. But, we don’t only customize to suit your esthetic preferences. We also consider the building’s specifications when complying with local and state building codes.
Versatility
All metal buildings are versatile. But, we like to think that Rex Metal Buildings are more adaptable than other brands. If you need wide open spaces big enough for vehicles or cranes, you can have that. Alternatively, if you need a design to suit a complex industrial process, we can do that too. We can meet or exceed your every requirement while giving fantastic value for money.
Steel Erection
If you want to organize the building erection team yourself, that’s great. Alternatively, we can provide a fully trained crew who knows how the building fits together. Before you know it, you’ll have your new metal building erected and making money.
Windows and Doors
Choosing the windows and door styles is essential for the building’s functionality and appearance. You can select various personnel and vehicle roller doors to suit your business. Furthermore, windows can provide light only and be placed high on the wall for security. Or, at desk height for ventilation, but be less secure. However, the choice isn’t only about these. You must also consider their location with the rest of the building and the internal working areas. Windows and doors must insulate employees from extreme temperatures, drafts, and external noise pollution, ensure adequate fire protection, and provide energy star savings on your overheads.
Contact our sales team for help choosing the door and window style and whether they should be insulated and double-glazed.
Insulation
We at Rex Metal Buildings insulate our structures in several ways. Some more effective than others, with a corresponding price variation. The most popular insulation materials are fiberglass and spray foam. However, you can also choose double-bubble or prefabricated insulated panels. Before ordering, please speak to our sales team, who can advise on the proper insulation for your application.
Fiberglass
Fiberglass insulation comes in various thicknesses and R-Values depending on the necessary insulation in your climate zone. Generally, we supply fiberglass insulation in buildings needing minimal cooling or heating.
Spray Foam
Spray foam has an added advantage: it adheres to the metal panels and fills all gaps around the base, eaves, corners, and panel edges. Thereby, ensuring an airtight building, which saves on energy bills.
Double Bubble
Imagine a bubble wrap inside the entire building. It controls temperature and humidity by cost-effectively reducing moisture with minimal cooling and heating.
Insulated Panels
Insulated metal panels consist of two single-skin panels sandwiching a foam core. The panels lock together, providing an unbroken thermal barrier. However, they cost significantly more.
Colors
You might want your Rex Metal Building to contain your corporate colors. Alternatively, local building codes might specify your building blends into the surrounding landscape. Or, you might prefer a specific color. For whatever reason, we’ll do our best to accommodate a particular color choice. Get in touch for advice on the available colors.
100×120 Building Pricing Factors
Several factors affect the cost of any pre-engineered and prefabricated metal building. And Rex Metal Buildings are no exception.
Size
Generally, the size of your metal building is an excellent place to start when discussing the pricing factors. Because a metal building uses rigid steel frame supports, and steel panels to enclose the usable area, the width, length, ridge height, and eaves height all have an effect. Furthermore, metal buildings’ costs are usually specified per square foot, so it’s relatively easy to calculate a ballpark price. Typically, these range from $15-$25/sq.ft. However, accounting for customizations increase the costs accordingly.
When a building’s size increases over 2,000 sq.ft., the overall cost of materials usually falls but will be offset against higher erection costs as larger structures need larger crews and heavier equipment.
Another feature to consider is the height. Generally, unless you specifically need a lot of headroom, excessive height is a waste of money. Therefore, don’t buy a building higher than necessary.
Plot Requirements
You know the necessary size of your building. But, will it fit in your plot area? Choose a metal building that matches the shape of your land. For example, you may want a 2,500sq.ft footprint. Don’t buy a 50ft x 50ft metal building when your plot only allows a 40ft x 70ft (2,800sq.ft.) structure. Bearing this in mind, if you want to increase your floor area, consider making the building longer rather than wider. You’ll save money by not increasing the roof span.
Manufacturer’s Purchasing Power
Usually, companies purchasing bulk steel receive a discount allowing them to pass on the lower prices to their customers.
Style
Rex Metal Buildings offer a wide variety of architectural styles. Generally, prices vary with the complexity of the building’s design.
Customization & Accessories
You will pay extra when you want a building more complex in style or with a different configuration to our standard layouts. The additional amount depends on how much your design diverges from our standard range. This includes a choice of doors and windows as well as different roof types, exterior colors, or insulation.
Location
The cost of your new metal building depends on where you live. The following list shows the main reasons:
- Shipping fees – The distance between you and our supply depot determines the transportation costs.
- Contractor’s fees – The steel erection contractor has a specific catchment area. If they work outside this, you must pay extra traveling costs to account for the additional fuel and time.
- Climate zone – if you live in an area that suffers from frequent bad weather, you’ll pay for difficulties in steel erection and the additional time.
- Access – depending on the accessibility of your property, you pay more.
- Time of year – An integral part of the steel erection process is constructing suitable concrete foundations and a concrete floor. Concrete is difficult to work during extreme temperatures and humidity, and you must account for this.
Insulation
Most of our customers choose to insulate their new metal building and choose from several different types. Some insulation costs more to buy upfront but is more effective in saving money in the long term, while others are cheaper and less effective. Discuss your preferences with our sales team.
Other Factors
Other factors affect the cost of our metal building kits. Local engineering codes, large snow loads, and excessive wind speeds affect your building’s design. So, before ordering, research as much as possible about these factors and speak to our sales teams for advice.
100×120 Steel Buildings Uses
Rex Metal Buildings supplies kits for just about any purpose whatsoever. Whether personal, agricultural, commercial, or industrial, you can be sure to have a secure, structurally sound, pest and rot-proof, cost-effective building designed for the job. Here are just a few of the uses you can put your new building to:
Personal Use
Vehicles like cars, RVs, boats, and aircraft all need protection from the ravages of the weather. You also need somewhere warm and dry for much-needed maintenance. What more could you want?
Homesteaders and horticulturists need a dry place to keep garden equipment, grain, and roots. And if you breed birds, dry, warm, and vermin-proof enclosures are essential.
If you enjoy outside entertaining or firing up the barbeque, an open-air shelter is ideal for your patio or deck. Rex Metal Buildings provide a maintenance-free enclosure for your outdoor life.
Hobbies and cottage industries need space for working and material storage. What better option than to buy one of our insulated metal structures?
Prefabricated metal panels don’t need the maintenance that wood does. Therefore, a Rex Metal Building provides shelter for many personal activities without the extensive care that wood structures need.
Agricultural Shelters
Traditionally, farm buildings are made from wood, with all the associated ongoing maintenance issues. Instead, contact Rex Metal Buildings for a versatile and practical solution to all your agricultural needs.
Farm buildings must be hardwearing, multi-functional, and value for money. We can configure our prefabricated kits to suit your farm.
Livestock needs protection during the extreme weather that some US climate zones experience. Our buildings offer your animals a temperature-controlled dry environment away from the sun, cold, wind, and dust.
Agricultural machinery costs thousands of dollars, and you need somewhere secure to protect it from rust, dirt, and theft. Also, you need a vehicle maintenance space too.
Milking and cheese-making facilities need food-grade surfaces to ensure the strict hygiene requirements for food manufacture. Lining an insulated metal structure with stainless steel keeps out vermin, maintains a constant temperature, and provides an easily sterilized surface.
Grain and root storage areas must be dry and proof against vermin. Look no further than a Rex Metal Building pre-engineered to your specifications.
Commercial
Successful businesses need purpose-made premises to carry out their commerce. Generally, commercial premises won’t be limited to employees. Instead, you’ll have customers and clients there too. This requires compliance with many building codes for fire and cleanliness, to name but two. Contact Rex Metal Buildings for advice on what we can provide.
Erect office premises quickly to suit your business. Our pre-engineered buildings have acoustically and thermally insulated and detachable internal partitions for your company’s requirements.
Retail shops need stylish designs with clean, fresh lines to attract customers. Otherwise, they’ll go to your competitors. Our metal buildings improve your customers’ shopping experience and provide value for money for your company.
Warehouses provide a secure storage facility for your company’s products. Our metal buildings protect your company’s substantial investment from theft and vermin, and we can include roller doors for vehicle access. Hence, your products remain secure and protected from the weather.
Many companies need manufacturing space. Our structures will be the correct size and configuration to accommodate any manufacturing process. Just give us your measurements, and we’ll do the rest.
Rex Metal Buildings will accommodate the most extensive gymnasium layout. And it’s not only gym equipment we protect. We have buildings large enough for indoor soccer, basketball, and pony riding, to name a few. With our ClearSpan steel roof supports, there’s no need for columns to interfere with the floor space.
Churches and community halls need large open areas to serve your locality. Furthermore, we can install internal partitions to house kitchens, offices, and private meeting rooms. Just contact our sales team for further details.
Industrial Premises
Rex Metal Buildings provide structures for all types of industrial use. We offer vehicle-sized roller doors, a building configuration to suit your optimum layout, and partitioned soundproof offices for your employees.
Factories need a specific layout to operate efficiently, and we can provide the correct configuration for your process.
